Mucormycosis in post-COVID patients: loose cannon waiting to fire at the anaesthesiologist

Abstract Background Recently, several cases of mucormycosis in people with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have been increasingly reported worldwide, particular from India. As an increasing number post-COVID patients are presenting for surgical management, the onus is on anaesthesiologists to adequately evaluate and optimise such patients. Case presentation We present three highlight anaesthetic challenges undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) debridement through a series cases. In our manuscript, two had comorbidities as challenge uncontrolled diabetes hypertension. The third case difficult intubation due small mouth opening which was probably swelling tenderness result rhino orbital mucormycosis. Conclusions Proper anticipation, optimization timed promptness deal pertaining multisystemic involvement sequelae should be done.
